Reminiscing the time when I witnessed 30 Seconds To Mars live in concert, I could not help but continue the bliss of such an incredible experience. I remember ending up spending half of the night just replaying the official music video of 30 Seconds of Mars- City of Angels, craving and eager to view more of Bartholomew Cubbins’ work after only watching the band’s Up In The Air music video (I highly recommend watching the video(s), it is absolutely mind-blowing perfection. Seriously). Anyways after watching only just the first 3 minutes of the video I knew what I was up against. I felt this unfamiliar yet ever so familiar (oh the beauty of paradox) lump at the back of my throat. By 8 minutes 32 seconds, the video, the meaning, the flawless music, the beautifully dark lyrics, Jared Leto’s soulful vocal chords… all of it just crashed down upon me- literally. That is all I can describe it as. I am not sure what broke down me, what emotional trigger had been pulled, but something dormant had definitely been awoken. I remember truly feeling the passion behind Leto’s words.
As I stood in that arena on the 15th November 2013, swaying to Leto’s glorious voice and admittedly welling up, I couldn’t help but make yet another one of my infamous ‘meaningful jigsaws of the moment…’
Just as Leto was singing the exact words ‘A million little pieces,’ a million little pieces of confetti rained down on us… effortlessly falling, spiralling downwards and then slowly floating aimlessly. In that moment I saw it. Just as the pieces of confetti were falling- we all plan to fall too individually. Gracefully or gravely, our fall is a part of our own making… Our fall involves us being at such a great height in order to fall in the first place remember. You see I never managed to see that confetti hit the floor, and thus we have not hit the bottom from our fall. We are still falling, all at different levels, some more slowly, others even being whisked by the wind leading to another journey altogether. It is the hope that is our momentum- our leverage, that continues to keep us Up In The Air.
This whole night just made me contemplate everything, making me question what is stopping me from becoming someone, as the many figures of inspirations have, what is stopping me from making my own mark on the world as I have always dreamt? Only myself ofcourse.
…You are the only person who has the power to stop yourself, no one else. As Jared Leto sings ‘One Life, One Love, LIVE.’
We are the next generation, the future leaders of tomorrow. We can make change. Perhaps not worldwide but monumental in our own individual lives. The sky is truly the limit as they say.
‘To be is to merely exist. I don’t want to just BE– I want to be many people at the same time, I want as many thoughts, words , dreams and aspirations. I want to do everything. I want to experience beyond the known. I want to be everything and anything that is humanely possible.’ – nishabynight.
